Teaching Assistant Recruitment

We are inviting passionate and driven students to join the Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology Course (BIMB202124 - Master Level), held by Faculty of Biology, Universitas Gadjah Mada, as Lab Practicum Assistants for the upcoming semester (Feb-June 2026).

This role is ideal for students and fresh graduates who are enthusiastic about molecular biology, genetic manipulation, and applied biotechnology, and who want to strengthen their laboratory skills while supporting fellow students in hands-on experimental learning.


Responsibilities

As a Practicum Assistant, you will help with:

  • Assisting during laboratory sessions (DNA extraction, PCR, cloning, gel electrophoresis, transformation, etc.)
  • Supporting students during experimental setup and troubleshooting
  • Helping prepare reagents, materials, and laboratory equipment
  • Assisting in maintaining lab safety and good laboratory practice (GLP)
  • Supporting project-based mini research activities and presentations
  • Providing feedback and answering student questions during lab or online sessions

This is a project based practical session so the schedule will be flexible in agreement between the teachers and students.


Requirements

  • Graduate students, or fresh graduates in Biology, Biotechnology, or related fields
  • Already taken Molecular Biology / Genetic Engineering course OR have basic familiarity with:
    • PCR and gel electrophoresis
    • DNA cloning and plasmid concepts
    • Basic microbiology techniques
    • Sterile technique and laboratory safety
  • Responsible, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a wet lab environment
  • Willingness to learn and assist others (you don’t need to know everything!)
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
